Pour la troisième fois, nous participons au festival Les Mesnographies, avec la série "With All Our Might" de la photographe et réalisatrice franco-américaine Déborah Farnault.
La Californie, cinquième puissance économique mondiale, est aux premières lignes du réchauffement climatique. Les vagues de chaleur, qui y sévissent depuis plusieurs années, ne sont pas de simples sécheresses temporaires ; elles sont bien le résultat d’une désertification progressive de la région. À travers une approche topographique, Déborah Farnault présente des images dénudées d’artifices : quelques intérieurs silencieux, des visages fatigués et l’immensité des paysages arides. "With All Our Might" aborde les notions de nostalgie, d’aliénation et d’un romantisme qui s’effrite sous la lumière implacable du désert californien.
For the third time, we take part in the Mesnographies festival with The series ‘With All Our Might’ by Franco-American photographer and director Déborah Farnault.
California, the world’s fifth largest economy, is on the front lines of global warming. The heat waves, which have been raging there for several years, are not simple temporary droughts; they are indeed the result of a progressive desertification of the region. Using a topographical approach, Déborah Farnault presents images stripped of artifice: a few silent interiors, tired faces and the immensity of arid landscapes. ‘With All Our Might’ addresses notions of nostalgia, alienation and a romance that crumbles under the relentless light of the Californian desert.

« Le travail de Charlotte Moth se place avec légèreté dans le monde (...) S’il est difficile de trouver de fortes interprétations de l’art à partir de 1990, le livre d’Ina Blom "On the Style Site: Art, Sociality and Media Culture" identifie certains des contextes auxquels un groupe d’artistes, principalement européens, répondent aujourd’hui. Blom identifie le style – en particulier les intérieurs, les environnements et les espaces qui deviennent simultanément publics et privés – comme un nouveau domaine de recherche et comme un tournant quelque peu déroutant par rapport aux préoccupations antérieures des avant-gardes du XXe siècle, portant sur la fusion de l’art et de la vie. On peut envisager le travail de Moth comme partageant des caractéristiques avec celui d’artistes tels que Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster et Tobias Rehberger (parmi le groupe plus large abordé par Blom), en ce que l’espace de la galerie devient absolument nécessaire pour contenir une combinaison complexe d’éclairages, d’objets, d’éléments de mobilier et de présentation, d’histoires, d’arrangements et d’images, n’ayant pas tous le même poids, la même existence physique ou la même présence sculpturale. » (Ian Hunt, 2016)
Charlotte Moth est née en 1978 à Carshalton, Royaume-Uni. Elle vit à Paris depuis 2007.

“The work of Charlotte Moth places itself lightly in the world (...) Strong art-historical accounts of the period from 1990 onwards are hard to find, but Ina Blom’s book On the Style Site: Art, Sociality and Media Culture identifies some at least of the conditions that a group of mostly European artists were responding to in this period. Blom identifies style – notably of interiors, environments and spaces that are becoming simultaneously public and private – as a new area of concern, and as a somewhat confusing twist on the earlier twentieth- century avant-garde preoccupation with the merging of art and life. Moth’s work can be seen to share characteristics with artists such as Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster and Tobias Rehberger (among a larger group of artists discussed by Blom), in that the space of the gallery is strongly needed as the container for a complex combination of illumination, objects, furnishings and display items, histories, arrangements and images, not all of which have the same weight, physical insistence or sculptural presence."
