Exhibition of paintings
24 September – 19 November 2023
Maison Louis Carré’s autumn exhibition will be dedicated to two Nordic painters: Alvar Gullichsen from Finland and Arngunnur Ýr from Iceland. Both of these artists create large works painted in bold colors that immediately appeal strongly and challengingly to the viewer. Their works will be brought together in the various spaces of the building, in conversation with each other as well as with Alvar Aalto’s architecture and design.
Both Arngunnur Ýr and Alvar Gullichsen work with a kind of a landscape, she with glaciers and vegetation, he with an imaginary urban landscape that reflects internal movements and conditions. Both use references to different cultural areas and their own experiences. The human figure is absent, yet the one who creates patterns and structures, as well as being affected by climate change. These excellent and original painters deal with our environment, real or imaginary, inside and outside of us.
