Music-dance performance

Maison Louis Carré invited Petteri Iivonen, first violin of the Paris Opera Orchestra, as well as Ida Viikinkoski and Julien Guillemard, dancers at the Paris Opera, to create a performance combining music and dance. Inside the exhibition Dialogue: minä perhonen & Esa Vesmanen, the Finnish and French dancers performed a pas de deux on the Chaconne by Johann Sebastian Bach, evolving in the interior and exterior spaces of the villa.
Ida Viikinkoski has named the piece Lempipaikka which means “favorite place” in Finnish. “I got the inspiration for my piece when visiting the Maison Louis Carré. Alvar Aalto’s architecture reminded me instantly of my home, Finland. I was filled with warmth, happiness, so many memories and a bit of nostalgia while visiting the house. The use of wood and soft forms made me think about nature which is very important in Finland and what connects me with my home country. I was inspired by my grandparents’ summer house in the archipelago with everything it reminds me of: sun, sea, waves, cliffs, family, childhood, happiness, peacefulness and love.”
